Aspire is proud to share that three of its young clients have passed their English exams.

Every year, Aspire provides 50 young people with English and Maths tuition. Tuition is vital for clients who have dropped out of school at an early age. Without essential qualifications in place, young clients can struggle to access opportunities, work, and even housing.

‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘K’ are all young Aspire clients. They’ve all passed their English exams, gaining an essential qualification. Read on to hear their stories...

‘A’, 19

A had to leave school in year 8, due to severe anxiety. A received homeschooling, but says they didn’t have any tutors or support. In their own words, they ‘didn’t really do any proper learning’.

Following a mental health check with their GP, A was referred to Aspire’s youth services.

Despite struggling with their anxiety, A has an 100% attendance rate at Aspire. A travels independently to sessions by bus.

A believes that English & Maths qualifications will open doors to a wide range of opportunities. Having passed their English exam, they’re now looking ahead to their Maths exam in March.

‘B’, 23

Living in Young People’s Supported Accommodation, B has faced multiple barriers to progression. B has turbulent personal relationships and had extremely negative experiences in school. As a result, B needs support in tuition sessions to avoid being triggered. B is 6 months pregnant and is not in a relationship with the baby’s father.

B said that Aspire tuition is ‘so much easier to understand’ than her prior education. B has passed their English exam and took their Maths exam in February.

B is working towards a vocation as a Teaching Assistant or Teacher. Maths and English qualifications could help B progress towards her goals.

‘K’, 18

K left formal education in year 10. Since then, K attended a college course for two years; however, they had no certified English & Maths qualifications on record. K often falls out with their parents due to complicated circumstances, impacting K’s self-esteem.

Currently in Young People’s Supported Accommodation, K has maintained an 87% attendance rate at Aspire. K always arrives early for sessions.

K said: "I don’t know exactly what I want to do but I just want to be able to do it for myself - I don’t want to be stuck anymore."

A, B, and K face difficult circumstances and barriers. Despite this, they all passed their English exam, showing perseverance, skill, and potential. We'd like to congratulate them for their hard work.

To date, 100% of clients receiving Aspire tuition have gone on to pass their English and Maths exams.
